Life Group Questions for THE GOSPEL OF MARK

A few years back I had a lawn specialist come look at my lawn to help me get it under control. There was a myriad of weeds, bugs, brown spots and all types of other issues. I'm sure I coulda just kept mowing and tending it like I'd been doing for years but I wanted an expert to come sell me some miracle product to do the work and get me back on track. After he surveyed my lawn by slowly scanning his eyes back and forth for about 4 minutes without saying a word he finally said something. 'You need to tear everything out and put in a new lawn.'  I started laughing! I asked him what I looked like and then asked if that's what other people do in my situation. 'Are you telling me people just tear out their old lawns and put new ones in??' He wasn't fazed. He simply nodded and went on to tell me that I had 7 different types of grass growing in my lawn and innumerable strains of weeds all of which had been brought in through the wind and birds over the years. In protest I asked him if there was a special chemical I could apply that would kill the weeds and various strains of grass while simultaneously feeding the one strain of grass I wanted to retain. He smiled at me and said that if he had that chemical he'd be a billionaire. Unfortunately there is no chemical that would simply fix all of my issues and restore my lawn to glory. To make a long story short I waited for another 3 months until I finally texted him and ordered a new lawn and his team came and removed my old mess for me and began to roll out the sod for a new beginning. It was AWESOME! But in order to get the new, I had to remove the old. I had to go backwards before I could go forwards. Sometimes in our lives we have to tear some things out or unearth some things that need to go before we see the new beginning start to take root. The Holy Spirit will guide us in these times and while there is work to do, God provides His miraculous grace to cover us and His powerful love to grow us. He who began a good work in you will complete it! But it might get messy from time to time. This is ok. He is growing in you something beautiful! Do the next right things. He is for you!

LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS:

1) On Sunday we looked further into how Jesus responded to sinners like Levi and his buddies. Jesus saw sinners as patients needing a doctor. How do you react when you see the world around us in it's Godless state? Are you like Paul in Athens who was provoked to share, serve, and witness to the people of Athens or are you more likely to bristle and judge towards the big bad world? We're all growing!

2) The world is full of people who don't know God. They don't go to church. They don't know Jesus. How do you think these people view you who are God's Ambassador's for Him? The Bible says that the common person received Jesus with glad hearts. They LOVED to be around Him! Why did the normal people love to be around Jesus?

3) On Sunday I asked a question in response to this passage. The question was, what kind of a church do you want to go to? A church that loves and welcomes sick sinners and then introduces them to Jesus or some other type of church? As convicting as this question can be, let's talk about it in our groups!

I love you guys!

Jesus has sent us on mission to love the unloveable and serve the masses in His name!

Let's DO IT!
